Staff Forward Deployed Engineer (AI)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States; hybrid workplace. Travel to customer sites may be required.

What you will do

• Lead technical discovery with customer engineering teams and translate complex requirements into production solutions.
• Own architecture and technical delivery from solution design through implementation, deployment, stabilization, and production readiness.
• Build production-quality agents, applications, APIs, integrations, data connectors, workflows, automation, and supporting services.
• Integrate Extreme products and platforms with customer data sources, identity systems, enterprise applications, infrastructure, and operational workflows.
• Design testing, evaluations, guardrails, security controls, deployment automation, observability, and operational mechanisms.
• Lead design and code reviews, mentor engineers, document solutions, and identify reusable patterns and platform requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of software development lifecycle experience, including architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production operations.
• Strong hands-on proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages, such as Python, Java, Go, TypeScript, C#, or C++.
• Experience designing distributed, cloud-based, or enterprise software systems and integrating APIs, data, identity, infrastructure, and operational systems.
• Experience with AI, automation, data, networking, cloud infrastructure, debugging, systems, and software architecture.
• Must work in a hybrid arrangement in Seattle, Washington, and be able to travel to customer sites as required. Employment visa sponsorship, including H-1B sponsorship, is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience building production generative AI or agentic systems with tool use, retrieval, planning, orchestration, context management, evaluation, or guardrails.
• Experience with Model Context Protocol, modern agent frameworks, networking, telemetry, observability, or distributed systems.
• Experience with Kubernetes, containers, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, distributed data platforms, streaming systems, or real-time processing.
• Master’s or PhD in a relevant technical discipline.
• Prior Forward Deployed Engineering or deeply technical customer-facing software engineering experience.
