External Loads Engineer 3 (Aerospace)

Location: Waco, Texas; onsite. The schedule is 9/80, with every other Friday off. Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and overtime is required, along with up to 10% travel.

What you will do

• Generate mass properties, inertias, and finite element models to determine inertial loads.
• Compile aerodynamic, mass properties, dynamics, and aircraft state data into combined load cases for airframe models.
• Develop structural design criteria and supporting documentation.
• Create free-body diagrams, determine reaction forces, and prepare shear and moment diagrams.
• Run simulation tools, process and assimilate data, and select critical conditions.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and support loads validation tests.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and at least 4 years of structural engineering experience developing aircraft loads.
• Alternatively, a graduate degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or 8 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
• At least 1 year of experience with finite element modeling and analysis codes.
• At least 1 year of experience with MATLAB or scripting languages such as Visual Basic, Perl, or Python.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance; security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.
• Ability to work onsite in Waco, Texas, including required shifts, weekends, and overtime.

Nice to have

• Experience with MSC PATRAN or FEMAP and MSC Nastran.
• Experience with Linux or Unix operating systems.
• Knowledge of military or commercial certification requirements.
• Ground and flight test loads experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
