TL;DR
Spacecraft Test Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and operating fluid, mechanical, vacuum, environmental, and electrical test systems for spacecraft hardware with an accent on flight-hardware verification, instrumentation, and test automation. Focus on developing complex test setups, resolving technical issues in hazardous and high-pressure environments, and enabling automated spacecraft acceptance testing.

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; Workplace type: Onsite. Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain an export license under ITAR/EAR requirements.

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design and build fluid, mechanical, vacuum, environmental, and electrical systems for spacecraft testing.
  • Own key test assets and major test programs while collaborating with engineering and cross-functional teams.
  • Perform flight-hardware verification, conduct test operations, and document results precisely.
  • Resolve technical issues and develop resourceful solutions for spacecraft test systems.
  • Improve processes and enable automated acceptance testing.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of professional experience testing aerospace or spaceflight hardware, including propulsion systems, structures, mechanisms, or avionics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Understanding of mechanical, propulsion, fluid, or structural systems.
  • Strong data analysis skills using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.
  • Hands-on laboratory or test-stand experience and the ability to manage multiple test campaigns.
  • U.S. Person status or eligibility to obtain an applicable U.S. export license is required.

Nice to have

  • At least 2 years of aerospace or spaceflight hardware testing experience.
  • Experience with high-pressure fluid systems, vacuum systems, hazardous test operations, instrumentation, DAQ systems, or sensor integration.
  • Experience developing test plans, automating test setups with NI, LabVIEW, PLCs, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, FEA/CFD results, and system requirements.
  • Experience in fast-paced R&D or startup environments.
