Director of Product Engineering (AI)

Location: Austin, Texas; hybrid with 3 days onsite per week

Base pay: $230,060–$259,500 per year, plus a competitive bonus.

What you will do

• Define and execute long-term engineering strategy in partnership with the CTO and executive leadership.
• Lead multiple engineering organizations through Engineering Directors, Engineering Managers, and senior technical leaders.
• Set organizational design, workforce planning, succession planning, budgets, governance, and operating models.
• Drive modernization initiatives for platform scalability, reliability, security, performance, and developer productivity.
• Set the AI strategy and partner with Product, Data, and Machine Learning teams on AI-powered customer experiences and AI-native engineering practices.
• Establish executive-level KPIs, improve delivery predictability, and communicate engineering performance and investment priorities to stakeholders.

Requirements

• 12+ years of progressive engineering leadership experience in high-growth technology organizations.
• 7+ years leading Engineering Managers, Directors, and multi-level engineering organizations.
• Experience leading organizations of 100+ engineers across multiple functional areas.
• Experience with engineering strategy, organizational transformation, workforce planning, budgeting, governance, and executive technology investments.
• Experience shipping AI/ML-powered products, including personalization, recommendations, search relevance, LLMs, or AI-native engineering practices.
• Strong understanding of modern software architecture, cloud platforms, distributed systems, security, and scalable engineering practices.

Nice to have

• Marketplace, SaaS, or consumer technology experience.
• Experience with rapid organizational scale, transformation, mergers, acquisitions, or IPO readiness.
• Experience integrating third-party LLMs, foundation models, and responsible AI governance.
• Experience presenting technology strategy to executive leadership, boards, or investors.
