TL;DR
Senior Data Scientist (AI/ML): Analyzing complex healthcare and public health datasets for CDC surveillance, research, and response initiatives with an accent on epidemiologic methods, reproducible workflows, and cloud-based analytics. Focus on developing and validating AI/ML models, building reusable data products in Palantir Foundry and Databricks, and translating scientific findings into actionable public health insights.

Location: Remote within the United States, including Oregon

What you will do

  • Provide senior-level scientific, epidemiologic, statistical, and data analytics support for CDC Data Hub, ADB, and OPHDST priorities.
  • Develop study questions, study designs, analytic plans, and methodological approaches for public health surveillance, research, and response.
  • Analyze large and complex healthcare and public health datasets, including EHR, administrative claims, laboratory, pharmacy, hospital, survey, and surveillance data.
  • Develop and validate AI/ML models through data preparation, feature engineering, model development, testing, performance evaluation, and interpretation.
  • Build reusable analytic workflows and data products in Palantir Foundry/1CDP, Databricks, and other cloud-based platforms.
  • Produce and review analytic reports, technical briefs, methodological documentation, presentations, white papers, code, and scientific products.

Requirements

  • Senior-level experience in scientific, epidemiologic, statistical, or data analytic support for public health, biomedical, or epidemiologic research.
  • Experience with large, complex healthcare or public health datasets and advanced statistical modeling or machine learning.
  • Strong programming and reproducible workflow experience with Python, R, SQL, SAS, Spark, Git/GitHub, or comparable approved tools.
  • Experience developing study designs, analytic plans, validation procedures, documentation, and scientific reports.
  • Graduate degree in data science, epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or another quantitative field.
  • Must be a US citizen or able to obtain a US Government Public Trust 5 security clearance.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting CDC, HHS, or another federal public health organization.
  • Hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry, 1CDP, Databricks, Microsoft Azure, Posit Workbench, Truveta Studio, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with causal inference, Bayesian methods, data mining, feature engineering, natural language processing, or other emerging analytic methods.
  • Experience serving as a data-asset subject matter expert and advising users on data quality, limitations, fitness for use, and interpretation.
