TL;DR
Environmental Test Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and operating thermal and vacuum test systems for spacecraft components and integrated systems with an accent on thermal vacuum testing, instrumentation, and flight hardware qualification. Focus on building TVAC assets, analyzing test data, troubleshooting vacuum and thermal-control systems, and validating performance under space-like conditions.

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite

Salary: $105,000–$165,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design and build thermal and vacuum test assets, including chambers, thermal control systems, and instrumentation.
  • Develop test procedures, safety protocols, configuration documentation, and acceptance criteria.
  • Operate and maintain thermal vacuum chambers for thermal cycling, bake-out, and vacuum performance testing.
  • Coordinate with design and analysis teams to define test requirements and boundary conditions.
  • Acquire and analyze test data, produce detailed reports, and verify compliance with test objectives.
  • Maintain measurement-system calibration and troubleshoot vacuum systems, pumps, heaters, and control electronics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in thermal vacuum testing or environmental test system design.
  • Hands-on experience with vacuum chambers, pumps, thermal control systems, and instrumentation.
  • Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and vacuum technology.
  • Experience with data acquisition and control systems such as LabVIEW, PLCs, or Python-based automation.
  • Must be a U.S. Person or eligible to obtain an applicable U.S. export license under ITAR/EAR requirements.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Familiarity with NASA GEVS, MIL-STD-1540, or ECSS environmental test requirements.
  • Experience with aerospace hardware qualification, flight hardware certification, TVAC chamber design, cryogenic systems, thermal shrouds, or high-vacuum pumping technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple test campaigns in a fast-paced environment.
