Payment Investigations Director (Banking & Liquidity)

Location: Chicago, IL, with a hybrid working model. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without employment-based visa sponsorship.

Salary: $123,400–$216,000 USD base pay annually.

What you will do

• Oversee the daily operations of payment investigations teams and ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and controls.
• Analyze operational workflows to improve processes, automation, and efficiency.
• Coach, mentor, and develop staff while managing performance, expectations, and career growth.
• Build a new fraud monitoring team, including hiring, process design, procedure development, and control implementation.
• Collaborate with internal business units, external financial institutions, peers across regions, and strategic change teams to resolve investigations and prepare for payment infrastructure changes such as ISO messaging formats.
• Develop monthly metrics, lead departmental improvement projects, and report progress to management.

Requirements

• Previous people management experience and strong leadership skills.
• Strong knowledge of SWIFT payment messaging, including MT103, 202, 202COV, 199, and 299.
• Knowledge of Fedwire, SWIFT, CHIPS, and payment investigations.
• Experience in cash and payments, including regulatory impacts.
• Ability to resolve complex investigations with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills and the ability to work with senior management and client service teams.
