Forward Deployed Engineer (AI Engineer)

Location: London, hybrid

Salary: £90,000–£115,000 per annum

A well-established UK business in a regulated sector is building a dedicated engineering team to move AI initiatives from experimentation into dependable production systems.

What you will do

• Partner with business teams to define, design, build, and deploy solutions for operational problems.
• Take AI projects from prototype through stable production and establish clear ownership.
• Build Python pipelines combining deterministic processing with LLM calls.
• Deploy data science models into customer-facing production, including serving and integration.
• Implement evaluation, guardrails, monitoring, alerting, and cost controls for AI workloads.
• Turn successful internal tools and recurring project patterns into shared tooling and safe defaults.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with ownership of production systems.
• Production experience building and shipping LLM-based systems.
• Strong Python development skills and experience working with models through APIs.
• Experience with orchestration, structured output, tool use, agents, and RAG.
• Experience designing evaluation sets, measuring LLM accuracy, and regression-testing prompts and workflows.
• Practical experience with PII handling, data boundaries, prompt-injection awareness, human-in-the-loop design, CI/CD, containerisation, monitoring, and data processing.
