Senior Software Engineer (Java/AI Lifecycle)

What you will do

• Build and maintain internal Java backend tooling that embeds AI into coding, test generation, deployments, defect triage, and observability.
• Identify manual engineering, testing, and release steps that can be automated and help move them toward largely unattended execution.
• Integrate and safely roll out LLM-based developer tools with Jira, Confluence, GitLab, and CI/CD environments.
• Support AI-enhanced testing through exploratory test generation, defect clustering, flaky-test detection, and smarter test prioritisation.
• Define responsible AI practices for the software development lifecycle, including data handling, prompt hygiene, and production-data guardrails.
• Track delivery and quality metrics, mentor engineers on AI tooling, and collaborate with product, testing, security, and compliance functions.

Requirements

• Extensive software engineering experience with strong technical judgement on production systems.
• Hands-on expertise in Java or a comparable backend services ecosystem.
• Strong experience with test-driven development and pair programming.
• Experience designing, building, deploying, and supporting systems in production.
• Experience evaluating or using LLM-based developer tools in a real engineering environment.
• Strong interest in aggressive automation and removing manual engineering steps.

Nice to have

• Experience with MCP, agentic tooling, or Spec Driven Development.
• Familiarity with the Atlassian ecosystem and its APIs.
• Experience in financial services, trading platforms, or regulated high-reliability environments.
