TL;DR
Principal Remote Assistance Systems Architect (Autonomous Vehicles): Own the architecture and technical roadmap for Remote Assistance across vehicle integration, offboard services, and operator tooling, with an accent on low-latency telemetry, safety-critical operation, and vehicle–operator authority boundaries. Focus on designing fallback and minimal risk manoeuvre behaviour, decomposing cross-organisational architecture into deliverable workstreams, and building Remote Assistance evidence for the L4 safety case.
Location: London, United Kingdom. Hybrid working model with in-person collaboration in the office, remote work, core hours, and hands-on work in vehicle workshops and labs.
Company
builds an AI platform for autonomous driving, using embodied AI and real-world learning to support vehicle automation from L2+ through L4.
What you will do
- Own the architecture and technical roadmap for Remote Assistance across onboard vehicle integration, offboard services, and operator-facing HMI.
- Define the vehicle–operator contract, including data, authority boundaries, fallback behaviour, minimal risk manoeuvres, and failure handling.
- Lead cross-team execution across autonomy, safety, platform, infrastructure, and product teams.
- Set system-level quality standards for latency, reliability, monitoring, replay, evidence, and incident-learning loops.
- Build Remote Assistance's contribution to 's L4 safety case with the safety organisation.
Requirements
- Staff-level experience building and owning real-time, safety-critical systems in autonomous vehicles, robotics, teleoperation, aerospace, avionics, industrial control, medical devices, or a comparable domain.
- Experience leading cross-organisational technical roadmaps and delivering work through teams that are not directly managed.
- Deep expertise in at least one of low-latency video or telemetry streaming, robotics or AV system integration, control systems, or human-in-the-loop system design.
- Experience with teleoperation, remote driving, or remote assistance systems, including operator UX and authority boundaries.
- Strong safety-first engineering practice, including failure-mode analysis, fallback or MRM design, operational constraint enforcement, and evidence-driven decisions.
- Ability to scale production systems from prototype to operational reliability in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.
Nice to have
- Experience connecting technical performance metrics to customer or rider experience and launch readiness.
- Background in autonomous driving and L4 safety-case development.
Culture & Benefits
- Hybrid working with dedicated offices and focused remote-work time.
- Relocation support and visa sponsorship where applicable.
- Market-benchmarked salaries, meaningful equity, and location-dependent benefits.
- Learning and development budgets for training, conferences, and professional growth.
- Health, dental, parental leave, retirement or pension benefits, therapy access, and wellbeing discounts where applicable.
Hiring process
