Sr. Human Factors Engineer (Medical Robotics): Leading human factors and usability engineering for the OTTAVA™ multi-quadrant robotic surgical system with an accent on usability strategy, risk assessment, regulatory documentation, and user interface design. Focus on planning and moderating usability studies, addressing complex use-related risks, mentoring engineers, and collaborating across R&D, clinical, regulatory, and quality teams.

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio, United States of America; travel up to 20% domestically and internationally

Base pay: $92,000.00–$148,350.00 per year

What you will do

  • Lead human factors and usability activities for the OTTAVA™ robotic surgical system from concept development through post-market support.
  • Plan, execute, moderate, document, and report usability testing and evaluations.
  • Prepare task analyses, usability risk assessments, use specifications, test reports, root cause analyses, and usability engineering plans.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Marketing, Medical Safety, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Engineering, and Quality Engineering.
  • Advise on ergonomic, anthropometric, workflow, and user interface considerations to reduce use errors and improve usability.
  • Mentor engineers, supervise external contractors and consultants, and facilitate cross-functional decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Human Factors Engineering, Usability Engineering, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, or Biomedical Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience in human factors or usability engineering, use case validation testing, or medical device product development.
  • Proficiency in human factors engineering processes, including research, planning, risk assessment, user interface requirements, and regulatory submissions.
  • Experience planning and conducting usability studies, moderating evaluations, and documenting results.
  • Knowledge of IEC 62366, FDA human factors engineering guidance, ISO 14971, and IEC 62304.
  • Fluent English and willingness to travel up to 20% are required.

Nice to have

  • Clinical experience or professional experience and education in software or GUI development.
  • Experience contributing to both software and hardware solutions.
