Senior Backend Developer (PHP)

Location: Sofia, Bulgaria

Developing an online gaming and betting platform that handles real-time betting operations and high-volume financial transactions.

What you will do

• Architect, design, and develop high-performance, fault-tolerant PHP backend services using Domain-Driven Design and SOLID principles.
• Model complex domains, define bounded contexts, and establish a shared language between technical and business stakeholders.
• Build and maintain high-throughput, low-latency RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Optimize database performance, queries, indexes, and legacy components for heavy transaction loads.
• Lead code reviews, technical design sessions, and security and architecture quality standards.
• Mentor junior and mid-level developers and collaborate with QA, DevOps, and Product leadership on reliable deployments.

Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience with PHP 7.4+ and PHP 8.x.
• Practical experience with Domain-Driven Design, including aggregates, entities, value objects, domain events, repositories, and bounded contexts.
• Strong knowledge of core PHP, object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, design patterns, and clean code.
• Advanced MySQL or MariaDB optimization experience, including query tuning, indexing, and heavy transaction loads.
• Deep knowledge of Docker, containerized deployment, REST APIs, JavaScript, and Node.js.
• Experience with automated testing and TDD/BDD using Codeception or PHPUnit.

Nice to have

• Experience with event-driven architectures and RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Knowledge of Redis, Memcached, database replication, or sharding.
• Experience with Nginx or Apache administration and optimization.
• Background in online gaming, fintech, or other high-frequency transactional domains.
