TL;DR
Custom Packaging Design Engineer Co-Op (Fall 2027) (Packaging Engineering): Creating customer-specific packaging designs, prototypes, and final prints from concept through production with an accent on manufacturability, materials, and plastic processing. Focus on leading assigned projects, validating designs through prototyping, interpreting blueprints, and resolving assembly and manufacturing issues onsite.

Location: Onsite at the ORBIS Corporation location in Greenville, South Carolina; travel to manufacturing plants may be required.

Six-month continuous co-op running from June 2027 through December 2027; candidates must be enrolled in post-secondary education during employment.

What you will do

  • Lead and manage assigned packaging design projects.
  • Create customer-specific design samples and cost-effective, manufacturable designs from concept through production.
  • Fabricate prototypes to validate design quality and obtain customer approval before manufacturing.
  • Provide technical judgment on customer requirements, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Identify and address issues discovered during assembly and manufacturing.
  • Work with design team members and managers while following company safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Junior or senior pursuing a technical or bachelor's degree in plastic engineering technology, packaging engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of plastic processing, mechanical engineering, and packaging engineering.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and use design software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of automotive or vehicle products.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work onsite in Greenville, South Carolina, travel to manufacturing plants, and work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
