TL;DR
Tier 3 SOC Analyst (Cybersecurity): Monitoring, analyzing, remediating, and reporting on cybersecurity events affecting the District of Columbia's technology infrastructure with an accent on advanced incident escalation, threat detection, and SOC oversight. Focus on correlating large-scale log and alert datasets, identifying root causes and indicators of compromise, tuning security tools, and developing effective response procedures.

Location: Onsite in Washington, DC 20003, United States. Work schedule is 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Applicants must be US citizens or green card holders.

Salary: $60.00/hour on W2 or $65.00/hour on 1099.

What you will do

  • Monitor, detect, analyze, remediate, and report on cybersecurity events and incidents affecting the District of Columbia technology infrastructure.
  • Review escalated events from Tier 2 analysts, distinguish benign activity from confirmed incidents, and coordinate escalation to the Incident Response Lead.
  • Correlate logs, alerts, and event data from diverse network devices and applications to identify incidents and recommend remediation.
  • Conduct proactive searches for undetected threats and analyze threat intelligence, indicators of compromise, vulnerabilities, and attacker techniques.
  • Tune security tools and detection rules, reduce false positives, and develop related response procedures, SOPs, and runbooks.
  • Provide expert technical support to enterprise technicians and staff, quality-check SOC advisories, and recommend improvements to incident handling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least five years of operational experience as a cybersecurity analyst or engineer handling and coordinating incidents in critical environments.
  • Advanced experience with SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls, NAC, DLP, DAM, content filtering, vulnerability scanning, and endpoint protection technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP protocols, networking, forensic analysis, intrusion detection, log analysis, penetration testing, and vulnerability management.
  • Ability to analyze threats such as DDoS, phishing, ransomware, botnets, command-and-control activity, network probing, and scanning.
  • Must be a US citizen or green card holder and work onsite in Washington, DC.

Nice to have

  • SANS GCIA, GCED, GPEN, GCIH, or a similar industry certification.
  • Experience with secure coding, real-time databases, real-time network and serial communications, or real-time graphics and logic applications.
