Senior Chemist - Innovation Ventures (Formulation Chemistry)

Location: El Segundo, California, United States; in-office Monday through Thursday and work from home on Fridays

Salary: $97,000–$104,000 annual base pay

What you will do

• Partner with Design and Product Development to identify chemical and material solutions for new product concepts.
• Develop, formulate, evaluate, and optimize inks, cosmetics, play compounds, and other formulated products.
• Lead chemical-feature development from concept through production, defining technical requirements, testing, milestones, and risks.
• Troubleshoot complex formulation, processing, performance, and production issues through root-cause analysis.
• Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners on material qualification, formulation transfer, and scale-up.
• Maintain formula specifications, mixing procedures, ingredient information, Bills of Substance, and other technical documentation.

Requirements

• BA/BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related physical science.
• Typically 3–5 years of experience in chemistry, formulation, materials development, or consumer product development.
• Strong knowledge of chemistry principles, formulation practices, raw materials, and material interactions.
• Experience independently developing and troubleshooting complex formulations, evaluating technical alternatives, and designing experiments.
• Ability to translate creative or product requirements into technical specifications and solutions.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, communicate with technical and non-technical audiences, and collaborate across suppliers and global manufacturing teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with formulated consumer products and manufacturing scale-up.
• Working knowledge of chemical safety, regulatory requirements, restricted-substance management, and technical documentation.
• Experience providing technical guidance to junior team members.
