Senior Python Developer (Data Governance)

Location: Glasgow, Scotland, or within a commutable distance of up to one hour; three days per week on-site in Glasgow

Consultancy supporting a leading global financial services organisation with data governance and technology risk and controls solutions.

What you will do

• Develop production-grade Python solutions using FastAPI and Pydantic for schema definition, validation, serialisation, and API-ready data structures.
• Build reusable Python libraries and automation patterns for data ingestion, governance workflows, data quality, lineage, and reporting.
• Design solutions for large-scale financial and risk data sets, prioritising performance, data integrity, and regulatory controls.
• Work with REST APIs, JSON, YAML, and SQL in enterprise data environments.
• Use AI-assisted coding tools responsibly and review generated outputs for security, compliance, and maintainability.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of professional Python development experience, including FastAPI and Pydantic for API development, schema design, and validation.
• Practical experience with JSON, YAML, REST APIs, SQL, Git-based development, code review, automated testing, and CI/CD concepts.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or Cursor, with the ability to validate and productionise generated code.
• Experience in financial services, preferably in banking, risk, compliance, regulatory reporting, or technology risk.
• Based in Glasgow or wider Scotland and able to work on-site three days per week.
• Data governance, data management, or cloud certifications.

Nice to have

• Experience with data modelling, metadata management, data taxonomies, lineage, data quality, business glossaries, or governance workflow design.
• Knowledge of BCBS 239, GDPR, DORA, MiFID, or Solvency II.
• Understanding of data mesh, data products, or domain-driven design.
