Sr. PHP Symfony Engineer (Remote, Full-Time)

What you will do

• Own backend development within a mature Symfony platform managing marketing and revenue data for enterprise customers.
• Support the migration from Symfony 6.1 to Symfony 7 by resolving versioning, compatibility, and legacy issues.
• Improve application performance, scalability, maintainability, and the safety of future development.
• Review and challenge human-written and AI-generated code, identifying gaps, root causes, and better technical approaches.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, QA, and DevOps colleagues across Symfony, Angular, TypeScript, and Python AI services.
• Follow SOC 2, PII, security, and data protection requirements consistently.

Requirements

• 8+ years of commercial software engineering experience, including at least 5 years with PHP and 7+ years of expert-level PHP development.
• 3+ years of recent advanced Symfony 6.x/7 experience, with strong Laravel experience considered where transferable.
• Advanced experience in backend architecture, system design, scalability, AI development tools, and MySQL schema design and query optimization.
• At least 1 year of front-end exposure to Angular and TypeScript, plus 3+ years of automated testing with PHPUnit.
• Experience with framework upgrades, legacy modernization, and at least 2 years of AWS or equivalent cloud experience.
• Fluent written and spoken English, UK-hours availability, the right to work in the application country, no employer sponsorship requirement, and successful completion of strict background checks are required.

Nice to have

• CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions or equivalent tools.
• Experience with Amazon Redshift, data warehousing, Azure, project leadership, mentoring, or technical leadership.
