Director of Data Engineering (AI)

Location: Remote; fully remote work with biannual off-sites.

Base salary: $200,000 per year, plus bonus and incentive compensation depending on experience.

What you will do

• Own the data roadmap and company-wide data model as a single source of truth for core business data.
• Refactor legacy jobs and reduce technical debt so the data platform can scale with the business.
• Maintain resilient, accurate, and trusted data pipelines while managing warehouse and infrastructure costs.
• Run intake and sprint prioritization based on business impact and changing stakeholder needs.
• Lead and coach a small data engineering team through reviews, feedback, and growth plans while contributing hands-on when needed.
• Integrate enterprise systems such as ERP into the warehouse and introduce AI agents for development, incident investigation, and data quality.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data architecture or data engineering, including 3+ years leading teams.
• Experience building and scaling cloud data platforms such as BigQuery.
• Strong SQL and Python skills, with experience in dbt or a similar modeling framework.
• Deep data modeling experience focused on business concepts, data quality, governance, and monitoring.
• Experience running sprint-based intake and prioritization for teams serving multiple stakeholders.
• Comfort with ELT tools such as Fivetran and Orbitrail; ERP experience is a plus.

Nice to have

• Experience in direct-to-consumer or consumer packaged goods companies.
• Enterprise resource planning experience.
