Head of Applied AI

Location: Co-located in Austin, Texas; candidates must reside in the Austin area or be willing to relocate. This position is limited to individuals who reside and are authorized to work in the United States.

What you will do

• Own the applied AI practice for Orchestration Works, defining standards for workflow-specific reasoning, prompts, agents, and tool use.
• Apply shared AI platform capabilities to revenue cycle workflows including denials, coding, eligibility, and prior authorization.
• Lead initiative-specific fine-tuning, model evaluation, and conformance with enterprise AI safety standards and guardrails.
• Partner with operator engagement leaders to validate AI capabilities with frontline teammates in shadow, parallel, or controlled production modes.
• Guide AI Engineers and Scientists assigned to delivery pods through hands-on technical design, reviews, and problem-solving.
• Drive platform evolution through operational demand without duplicating shared models or infrastructure.

Requirements

• 10+ years of AI/ML experience with progressive leadership responsibility, including leading applied AI or ML teams.
• Proven experience shipping applied AI products to production and delivering measurable business outcomes.
• Hands-on expertise with large language models, agentic architectures, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt and context engineering, fine-tuning, and evaluation.
• Experience working with enterprise AI platforms, evaluation frameworks, and safety guardrails.
• Cross-functional leadership across product, engineering, and operations, with strong communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Austin area and be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Healthcare or revenue cycle experience, with familiarity with HIPAA or HITRUST.
• Experience designing human-in-the-loop systems or AI applications used by frontline operators.
• Experience with adversarial testing and statistically sound offline model evaluation.
• Advanced degree in computer science, AI/ML, or a related field.
