Principal AI Engineer (Chief Architect)

Location: Wilmington, Delaware, United States; remote with 10% travel or hybrid

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable AI infrastructure from the ground up.
• Build and maintain data pipelines, deployment strategies, and production machine learning platforms.
• Develop AI integrations and APIs using REST and API gateways.
• Work with cloud platforms, containerized services, relational databases, NoSQL databases, and distributed systems.
• Optimize code and AI systems for performance, reliability, and security.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready AI capabilities.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in large-scale data or AI projects.
• Strong programming experience with Python, Java, or R.
• Experience with AWS or Azure and AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Scikit-learn.
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, relational and NoSQL databases, API development, distributed systems, and microservices architecture.
• Experience deploying and maintaining AI or machine learning models in production.
• Ability to travel approximately 10–20%; the role is remote from Wilmington, Delaware, with a hybrid option.

Nice to have

• Experience with Spark, Databricks, Kafka, Snowflake, Hadoop, or other real-time, batch, and big data technologies.
• Knowledge of NLP, reinforcement learning, generative AI, autonomous systems, or MLOps.
• Experience with AI applications in the insurance industry.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
