Junior Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Office-based in Magaliessig, South Africa

What you will do

• Support the design, development, and maintenance of software applications using Java and related technologies.
• Implement product designs with programming languages and development tools, and estimate and track development tasks.
• Fix bugs, deliver small enhancements, and participate in code reviews and established development processes.
• Collaborate with QA and support teams to investigate and resolve escalated issues.
• Build and test REST and SOAP services, web interfaces, and integrations.
• Evaluate, test, debug, and integrate AI-generated code into existing systems.

Requirements

• Diploma or Java Programming Certificate.
• At least 2 years of relevant exposure through internships, coursework, personal projects, or similar experience.
• Proficiency in Java JEE/SE and Java 8+ features, with experience using Spring Boot.
• Basic experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MariaDB.
• Knowledge of REST, SOAP, Git, Maven, API testing tools, and software development lifecycle practices.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, communication abilities, and willingness to learn and collaborate.

Nice to have

• BSc in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience with React, JSX, functional components, hooks, npm, and webpack.
• Basic knowledge of JUnit and Jest, CI/CD pipelines, deployment tools, Docker, and DevOps principles.
• Exposure to real-time web interfaces or portals and agile methodologies.
