TL;DR
Risk and Resilience Engineer (Climate Risk): Building property-level loss and resilience models that translate flood, wildfire, and wind hazards into structural damage, repair costs, downtime, and financial impacts with an accent on engineering-based analysis, uncertainty quantification, and global built-environment data. Focus on developing scalable multi-hazard models, validating imperfect-data assumptions, and evaluating how resilience and adaptation measures reduce damage and downtime.

Location: New York, United States

Salary: $102,000–$133,000 per year, plus eligible annual bonus.

Company

hirify.global provides research-based data, analytics, indexes, and technology that help financial-market participants understand risks and make better investment decisions.

What you will do

  • Develop loss and resilience models connecting physical climate hazards with financial impacts for buildings, infrastructure, and other global assets.
  • Estimate structural damage, repair costs and timelines, downtime, and indirect economic impacts using engineering, statistical, cost-estimation, and machine-learning methods.
  • Analyze historical loss, observational, exposure, construction, and cost data, addressing data-quality limitations and incomplete evidence.
  • Validate model performance, conduct sensitivity and uncertainty analysis, and produce scientifically rigorous outputs.
  • Translate research, engineering standards, and emerging methodologies into scalable multi-hazard catastrophe-risk models.
  • Develop property-level adaptation scenarios to assess the financial value and return on investment of resilience interventions.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. preferred, or a master’s degree with 3–5+ years of relevant experience in structural or civil engineering, resilience engineering, operations research, catastrophe risk, or a related quantitative field.
  • Structural engineering degree or civil engineering degree with a structural focus.
  • Experience developing vulnerability, risk, or loss models for buildings and infrastructure, including model calibration, validation, implementation, and uncertainty quantification.
  • Strong knowledge of statistics, probabilistic methods, quantitative analysis, multi-hazard risk data, and the built environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python or comparable scientific programming languages, plus experience with large datasets, high-performance computing, cloud platforms, and Git.
  • Experience applying machine learning and AI to engineering, risk, resilience, or scientific modeling, with a record of scientific research and publication.

Culture & Benefits

  • Flexible working arrangements, advanced technology, and collaborative workspaces.
  • Comprehensive employee benefits tailored to location and transparent compensation schemes.
  • Access to Global Orientation, Learning@hirify.global, AI Learning Center, LinkedIn Learning Pro, and other professional-development resources.
  • Career growth through internal mobility, expanded roles, and multidirectional career paths.
  • Inclusive global environment supported by multiple Employee Resource Groups.
