Production Engineer (Python/AI)

What you will do

• Triage CEO-created pull requests and determine whether to ship, rewrite, split, or reject them.
• Make AI-generated code production-grade through types, tests, error handling, safe migrations, and established engineering patterns.
• Protect accounting correctness across the general ledger, closed periods, approval workflows, audit flows, and financial integrations.
• Prepare LLM features for production with token tracking, spend limits, reliable error handling, and customer-facing failure reporting.
• Improve scaffolding, repository conventions, and tooling to reduce recurring AI-generated code issues.
• Provide clear technical pushback when a feature should not ship and propose safer paths to the intended customer outcome.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience shipping production Python.
• Strong code-review judgment, including the ability to identify production risks in large AI-generated diffs.
• Experience with accounting concepts including double-entry accounting, accruals, ASC 606, and month-end close.
• Deep experience with AI coding tools and their failure modes.
• Ability to reconstruct intent from incomplete specifications, work quickly, and communicate candidly with senior stakeholders.
• On-site availability in San Francisco.

• Django, Postgres, and Celery experience.
• TypeScript and React experience.
• Experience with financial integrations such as Plaid, Ramp, Brex, Stripe, and payroll providers.
• Early-stage startup experience.
