TL;DR
Assistant Research Scientist (Arthropod Molecular Biology): Characterizing arthropod neuropeptide receptor activity and testing small molecules and peptides in mosquitoes, ticks, and fire ants with an accent on GPCR functional analysis, molecular biology, and in vivo and in vitro bioassays. Focus on chemical library screening, RNAi and qRT-PCR studies, receptor expression, tissue analyses, and behavioral experiments.

Location: College Station, Texas, United States. The role requires on-site laboratory work, travel to South Texas or Kerrville for several days as needed, and work in a certified biosafety level 2 laboratory.

Company

hirify.global is a Texas A&M University System research agency focused on agriculture and life sciences.

What you will do

  • Lead research characterizing small-molecule and peptide activity on arthropod neuropeptide receptors.
  • Conduct chemical library screens using recombinant receptors expressed in mammalian cell lines.
  • Perform cloning, functional expression, calcium fluorescence and bioluminescence assays, RNAi studies, qRT-PCR, histochemistry, and tissue analyses.
  • Research mosquitoes, ticks, and fire ants of public health, medical, and agricultural importance, including feeding and pesticide bioassays.
  • Record, analyze, and present research results; prepare reports, manuscripts, and grant project materials.
  • Supervise technical staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Entomology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biology, Animal Physiology, or a closely related field.
  • Research experience with bioassays, molecular biology, qRT-PCR, cloning, basic microbiology, western blotting, experimental design, and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to analyze data using GraphPad Prism, R, or SAS.
  • Knowledge of biochemical calculations for preparing buffers, media, solutions, and small-molecule or peptide dilutions.
  • Ability to work in a certified biosafety level 2 laboratory and travel to South Texas or Kerrville, Texas.
  • Peer-reviewed publications and manuscript-writing experience are preferred.

Nice to have

  • Experience with histochemistry, tissue culture, mammalian cell culture, or high-throughput screening robots.
  • Experience working with mosquitoes, ticks, other blood-feeding arthropods, or arthropod neurobiology and physiology.

Culture & Benefits

  • Health, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance with employer contributions.
  • 12–15 paid holidays annually, sick leave, and vacation leave.
  • Automatic enrollment in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas.
  • Employee wellness initiatives and access to professional development through Aspire, LinkedIn Learning, and internal programs.
  • H-1B sponsorship may be affected by applicable fees and Texas filing restrictions; Texas A&M AgriLife will not pay the stated $100,000 fee.

Hiring process

  • Submit a complete application with a resume or CV and professional references.
  • Employment is contingent on credential verification and completion of a criminal history investigation.
