What you will do

• Conduct neuroscience research on basal ganglia and corticostriatal circuit mechanisms involved in substance use disorders and neurodegenerative disease.
• Design and execute rodent behavioral experiments, including oral and intravenous alcohol or drug self-administration and conditioned place preference assays.
• Perform slice electrophysiology, fiber photometry, stereotaxic surgeries, viral delivery, and neuronal tracer infusions.
• Conduct intracardial perfusion, brain fixation, sectioning, confocal imaging, and image analysis using Imaris and related software.
• Analyze electrophysiology, photometry, behavioral, and imaging data; prepare graphs, manuscripts, rebuttal letters, presentations, and sponsor reports.
• Assist with mentoring and supervising student and graduate researchers.

Requirements

• PhD in neuroscience or a related field.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
• Preferred experience includes 1–3 years of post-PhD research, rodent behavioral assays, and operant alcohol or drug self-administration.
• Experience with slice electrophysiology, fiber photometry, stereotaxic infusion, optogenetic or chemogenetic manipulation, immunohistochemistry, and image analysis is preferred.
• Preferred applicants have first-author publications and knowledge of cellular, synaptic, and circuit mechanisms underlying neuropsychiatric disorders.
• The position is onsite in Bryan, Texas; travel, work beyond normal office hours, and weekend work may be required.
