Associate Scientific Editor (Materials Science)

Salary: $59,200–$98,600 per year; geographic differentials may apply.

What you will do

• Evaluate manuscript submissions for scientific quality, significance, and fit with Matter's scope.
• Help shape the journal's scientific direction and continued development as a leading materials science publication.
• Coordinate at least one special issue each year with the editorial team.
• Build relationships with leading researchers to attract influential submissions.
• Identify strong materials science manuscripts for transfer or commissioning across Cell Press journals.
• Attend relevant conferences and research institutes, and collaborate with sales, marketing, production, and editorial teams.

Requirements

• PhD in a field relevant to Matter's scope, preferably materials science; relevant expertise in physical chemistry or condensed matter physics is also considered.
• Strong conceptual and critical thinking across broad scientific and technical topics.
• Existing networks within materials research communities and the ability to engage researchers at different career stages and across international boundaries.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Prior editorial experience is preferred, although exceptional early-career candidates with strong research backgrounds may be considered.
