TL;DR
Flight Software Internship (Aerospace): Building and testing real-time C++ software for spacecraft flight computers with an accent on autonomous control, data handling, fault protection, and hardware integration. Focus on designing embedded software, debugging low-level issues, integrating sensors and actuators, and validating reliable vehicle behavior across mission phases.

Location: Full-time, on-site in Los Angeles, California, United States. Summer internships run between May and August 2027, depending on the university schedule. Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program.

Salary: $37.00 per hour. Interns may also receive up to $4,000 in relocation support and up to $850 in commute credit, if eligible.

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses, with vehicles and hardware built, integrated, and tested in-house.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, and debug embedded C++ software running on spacecraft systems.
  • Develop and test real-time software for autonomous control, data handling, and fault protection.
  • Work with hardware interfaces, sensors, actuators, avionics, and component datasheets.
  • Assist with systems integration and testing across spacecraft subsystems.
  • Collaborate with avionics and systems teams to validate software behavior and vehicle reliability.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in C++.
  • Strong understanding of computer architecture and operating systems.
  • Experience with embedded systems or microcontrollers beyond limited Arduino use.
  • Familiarity with Linux environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug low-level software issues.
  • Must be actively enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program and be authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. person.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on embedded development experience outside coursework.
  • Previous internship or project team experience.
  • Experience reading and applying component datasheets.
  • Coursework in embedded systems, digital design, electronics, signals and systems, assembly, or software engineering.
