Formulation Science Internship (Biologics)

Location: Full-time, on-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Summer internships run between May and August 2027, depending on the selected student's university schedule.

Hourly rate: $33.00. Interns may be eligible for relocation support and commute benefits.

What you will do

• Characterize protein candidates using nanoDSF, SEC, DLS, circular dichroism, UV, fluorescence, SDS-PAGE, and cIEF.
• Design and execute binding and selection studies involving disordered protein stabilizers and microcrystalline pharmaceutical substrates.
• Evaluate stabilizer performance through lyophilization, reconstitution, and freeze-drying stress cycles.
• Prepare reagents, buffers, and sample sets and maintain accurate laboratory records.
• Analyze experimental data and collaborate with formulation scientists on laboratory planning and progress updates.

Requirements

• Must be actively enrolled in an accredited bachelor's or graduate degree program.
• Field of study in biochemistry, biophysics, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering, molecular biology, or a related discipline.
• Prior hands-on laboratory experience and knowledge of basic protein characterization techniques.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, protocol compliance, and written and verbal communication.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person for access to export-controlled technology.

Nice to have

• Junior, senior, or graduate academic standing.
• Experience with DLS, nanoDSF, SEC, circular dichroism, or capillary electrophoresis.
• Background in protein formulation, biologics drug product development, protein biochemistry, or lyophilization.
• Experience with GraphPad Prism, Python, MATLAB, GLP, or structured R&D laboratory environments.
• Interest in space medicine, in-orbit manufacturing, or the orbital economy.
