Senior Software Engineer (Databases)

Salary: $185,200–$326,800 USD annually, depending on location zone

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate database and storage platform software for reliable product development.
• Build services, APIs, and developer tools for database provisioning, schema changes, migrations, upgrades, and lifecycle operations.
• Solve database scaling and performance problems while protecting correctness, durability, and availability.
• Work across application code, distributed systems, networking, cloud infrastructure, and database behavior.
• Partner with engineering teams on schema design, query patterns, platform adoption, and reusable capabilities.
• Lead technical projects through implementation, testing, rollout, operational ownership, on-call participation, and incident response.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree, 3 years with a Master's degree, or equivalent experience.
• Experience building and operating backend, infrastructure, or distributed systems with relational databases in production.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and the ability to work across unfamiliar systems and codebases.
• Practical knowledge of transactions, indexing, replication, schema evolution, and query performance.
• Experience with at least one of database infrastructure, distributed storage, online migrations, cloud services, Kubernetes, observability, or developer tooling.
• Ability to debug production systems, explain technical tradeoffs, and turn ambiguous problems into working solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience with MySQL, AWS Aurora, Vitess, DynamoDB, Redis, ElastiCache, OpenSearch, or Kubernetes.
• Experience with Go, Java, Ruby, backend services, APIs, observability tooling, or AI-assisted engineering tools.
