Database Engineer

Location: Remote in the US or Canada

hirify.global develops search infrastructure and database technology for demanding customer workloads.

What you will do

• Design and implement improvements across storage, indexing, and querying layers of the search engine.
• Profile and optimize performance using tracing, CPU and heap profiling, data-structure optimization, SIMD, and I/O pipeline tuning.
• Evolve full-text search, vector search, reranking, and related APIs.
• Work directly with customers to support their workloads and incorporate learnings into the product.
• Write clear technical documentation.

Requirements

• Extensive systems engineering experience in Rust, C++, Java, Go, or another systems language.
• Strong understanding of memory layouts, cache lines, syscalls, and methodical root-cause analysis.
• Expertise in search internals, storage engines, or distributed systems.
• Comfort working with Linux terminals and tools including eBPF, perf, strace, and gdb.
• Ability to explain complex ideas clearly, build trust, and acknowledge knowledge gaps.

Nice to have

• Multiple years of Rust development experience.
• Experience operating production systems at scale.
• Contributions to database, information retrieval, or systems research and open-source communities.
• Experience with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, networking, observability, or security for multi-tenant systems.
