Scientific Director (Medical Publications)

Location: Remote within the United Kingdom; occasional overnight travel of up to approximately 20%. Hybrid work may apply based on location.

What you will do

• Lead large and complex accounts and define integrated medical and scientific communication strategies, including publication planning.
• Act as the principal scientific contact for clients and clinical stakeholders, aligning strategy with brand priorities.
• Oversee manuscripts, congress materials, training content, digital assets, and MLR-regulated materials.
• Conduct scientific reviews for accuracy, consistency, publication standards, and compliance with industry guidelines.
• Lead scientific discussions, workshops, speaker trainings, advisory boards, pitches, and proposals.
• Manage 3–5 direct reports, support capability development, and improve scientific workflows and quality governance.

Requirements

• Approximately 6+ years of medical communications or medical writing experience, including multi-asset or multi-account leadership.
• At least 2 years of people management and coaching experience.
• Advanced degree in a scientific or healthcare-related field preferred, such as an MSc, PhD, PharmD, or MD; relevant degree holders with extensive experience may be considered.
• Expertise in scientific writing, editing, data interpretation, and publication standards.
• Strong understanding of clinical research, the regulatory landscape, MLR submissions, and relevant publication guidelines.
• Strong strategic thinking, client leadership, facilitation, presentation, organization, and time-management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience leading publication and communication strategies for large or high-complexity life sciences accounts.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, graphic and image generation software, and collaboration platforms.
