Location: San Antonio, TX, United States; onsite with no teleworking

Salary: $23.09 per hour ($18.00 base rate plus $5.09 health and welfare benefits)

What you will do

• Provide spoken English–Spanish interpretation during resident interviews, medical appointments, legal meetings, orientations, programs, and daily facility interactions.
• Translate notices, forms, instructions, correspondence, reports, and other approved materials while preserving meaning, tone, and intent.
• Interpret legal, medical, safety, operational, and resident-services terminology accurately and impartially.
• Protect confidential resident, medical, legal, personnel, and operational information.
• Maintain assignment records and support audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
• Follow facility access controls, contraband restrictions, safety requirements, and operational security procedures.

Requirements

• Fluent English and Spanish with strong speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in both languages.
• At least one year of professional translation, interpretation, or closely related bilingual communication experience; relevant law enforcement, corrections, or military experience may substitute.
• Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal U.S. work authorization is required.
• Consent to fingerprinting, a comprehensive background check, security screening, preemployment medical assessment, and drug screening.
• At least 21 years of age and a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong communication, observation, and report-writing skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.

• Work takes place in a secure detention facility and may involve high-stress situations.
• Exposure may include extreme temperatures, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and loud noise.
• Physical duties may include standing, climbing, kneeling, crawling, bending, reaching, moving equipment, and occasionally lifting up to 49 pounds.
• Expected start date is later in 2026; the current posting is building a candidate pipeline.
