Principal Flight Software Engineer (Space Systems)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; based at hirify.global's global headquarters

Base salary: $160,000–$245,000 USD annually. Total compensation including equity: $210,000–$324,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Develop application software for RTOS and embedded Linux environments.
• Build hardware drivers for IMUs, star trackers, reaction wheels, and other spacecraft sensors and actuators.
• Develop and maintain unit tests within a continuous integration framework.
• Collaborate with hardware-in-the-loop test engineers to verify and validate software and hardware functionality.
• Define, document, and validate requirements with systems and embedded systems engineers.
• Participate in code reviews, PDR and CDR design reviews, and on-orbit and interplanetary flight operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in software, computer, electrical, aerospace, or another technical engineering discipline.
• 12+ years of applicable embedded software development experience.
• Proficiency in Rust, C++, and C, with experience in RTOS or embedded Linux.
• Experience leading junior software developers, collaborating across engineering disciplines, and interacting with customers.
• Active security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one.
• U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements; U.S. space technology export regulations also apply.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in a technical engineering discipline.
• Experience with CAN/CAN-FD and/or UDP/TCP in embedded systems.
• Experience developing software for autonomous vehicles operating in harsh environments.
