Senior Director Operations Biotherapeutics (Biotech)

Location: Leiden, South Holland, Netherlands; daily on-site presence required. Limited travel of less than 15% is expected.

Base pay: €127,900–€221,145 annually, including an 8% holiday allowance.

What you will do

• Lead the full biotherapeutic drug substance operation, including upstream, downstream, warehouse and logistics, and site services.
• Own operational performance, manufacturing flow, quality, safety, reliability, cost, and supply delivery across the organization.
• Drive site transformation, lean operational excellence, digital improvement, and the successful introduction of new products and technologies.
• Maintain cGMP and regulatory inspection readiness through risk-based decision-making, root-cause resolution, and sustained corrective actions.
• Build leadership capability, succession plans, workforce skills, and an inclusive performance-oriented culture across approximately 1,000 colleagues.
• Represent Operations on the Site Leadership Team, collaborate with cross-functional partners, and act as deputy to the General Manager when required.

Requirements

• Degree in Science, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
• At least 15 years of experience in biopharmaceutical or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
• Significant large-molecule or biotherapeutics manufacturing experience with strong knowledge of drug substance operations.
• Extensive senior leadership experience in large, complex manufacturing organizations and demonstrated success leading transformation while sustaining delivery.
• Experience with organizational capability building, coaching leaders, talent development, lean principles, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Fluent English is required; daily on-site presence in Leiden is required.
