AI Research Engineer

What you will do

• Design experiments to select effective AI models and approaches while balancing accuracy, latency, and cost.
• Build and own an evaluation framework using high-quality datasets, golden answers, human judgments, and LLM-based evaluation.
• Explore post-training methods, including supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning.
• Build reliable agent harnesses with tool use, deterministic checks, state tracking, retries, resource allocation, and human approvals.
• Set evaluation and escalation thresholds based on the consequences of failure.
• Work across Fuse to turn research findings into production systems and introduce applied AI methods.

Requirements

• Strong experience applying modern AI models to real-world tasks and improving measured outcomes through experimentation.
• Deep understanding of evaluations, dataset quality, and failure analysis.
• Hands-on experience with model selection and routing, fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, agent systems, or computer use.
• Strong software engineering skills, including Python and reliable experimental and production tooling.
• Sound judgment regarding cost, latency, reliability, risk, deterministic checks, and human review.
• Ability to move between research and implementation, from hypothesis formulation and rigorous testing to failure analysis and production delivery.

Nice to have

• Experience at a frontier AI lab or a team operating at a similar level of experimentation.
