Sr. Forward Deployed Engineer (Big Data)

Location: Melbourne, Australia or Sydney, Australia. Travel to customers 20–30% of the time.

What you will do

• Deliver short- to medium-term customer engagements focused on big data challenges using the Databricks platform.
• Build reference architectures, technical guides, production-grade MVPs, and greenfield projects.
• Design, build, and deploy big data and AI applications, including third-party migrations and integrations with client systems.
• Consult on architecture, bootstrap strategic projects, and support customer adoption of Databricks solutions.
• Provide escalated support for operational issues and collaborate with Engineering and Customer Support on product and implementation feedback.
• Coordinate with technical teams, project managers, architects, and customers to deliver project components within scope and timeline.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Kafka, cloud-native technologies, and data lakes.
• Experience in customer-facing post-sales, technical architecture, or consulting roles.
• Ability to write code in Python or Scala.
• Experience managing technical project scope and timelines.
• Strong documentation, whiteboarding, client communication, and conflict-management skills.
• Ability to travel to customers 20–30% of the time.
