TL;DR
Principal Member of Technical Staff (Wireless Technology and Standards) (3GPP/5G/6G): Shaping standards for mobile network management, orchestration, automation, service assurance, and operational architectures with an accent on 3GPP SA5, cloud-native networking, and AI-driven operations. Focus on authoring technical contributions, negotiating standards positions, coordinating across industry bodies, and defining operational frameworks for 5G Advanced and 6G networks.

Location: Onsite in Bothell, Washington, Dallas, Texas, or Middletown, New Jersey, USA; minimum 5 days per week in the office. The position is only available at the listed locations, and no relocation is offered.

Salary: $189,200–$283,800 USD annually

What you will do

  • Represent AT&T in 3GPP SA5 and related organizations, influencing network management, orchestration, automation, service assurance, OAM, and operational architectures.
  • Develop, defend, and negotiate technical positions across 3GPP, the O-RAN Alliance, and TM Forum.
  • Author technical contributions, white papers, position papers, and standards proposals.
  • Drive consensus among operators, infrastructure vendors, cloud providers, and other industry stakeholders.
  • Translate business, operational, and architectural requirements into standards strategies and coordinate alignment across 3GPP working groups.
  • Support patent generation and intellectual property development aligned with long-term technology strategy.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 days per week of office presence at one of the listed U.S. locations; no relocation is offered.
  • PhD with 4+ years, Master's degree with 6+ years, or Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Direct experience with 3GPP standards development, particularly SA5, and experience developing and negotiating standards contributions.
  • Deep knowledge of telecom management, orchestration, network operations, lifecycle management, OAM, service assurance, and network automation.
  • Understanding of 5G Core, IMS, network slicing, cloud-native and virtualized network functions, AI/ML for network operations, and service exposure APIs.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, including occasional weekend travel, for standards meetings and industry events.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with O-RAN SMO, O-RAN automation frameworks, TM Forum Open APIs, Autonomous Network initiatives, and 5G Advanced and 6G network management evolution.
