TL;DR
Team Lead - Flight Software - Electron (Embedded C/C++ and Aerospace): Leading development of flight software for Electron launch vehicle and Photon spacecraft avionics, ground communication systems, and simulations with an accent on reliability, embedded systems, and hands-on technical leadership. Focus on designing software architectures, solving complex vehicle-risk and flight-software problems, developing engineers, and writing and reviewing production code.
Location: Auckland, New Zealand; based at the Auckland Production Complex. Domestic and international travel may be required.

What you will do
- Lead a team of five engineers developing, maintaining, and supporting Electron flight software.
- Set long-term objectives and deliver reliable flight software for launch vehicle and spacecraft avionics.
- Lead development for embedded avionics computers, ground communications, avionics simulations, and hardware-in-the-loop systems.
- Approve software requirements, architecture designs, and backlog readiness; write code, unit tests, and documentation.
- Reduce software and vehicle risk through trade studies, technical decisions, and early risk identification.
- Develop engineers through one-to-ones, performance reviews, training, coaching, and clear feedback.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent knowledge.
- 5+ years of experience in a software engineering-related discipline and leadership experience in a software team with critical deliverables.
- Strong C/C++ development skills and embedded software development experience.
- Linux application development and networked application development experience.
- Experience with Git and Jira or another issue tracker.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical topics to less experienced colleagues.
Nice to have
- Linux kernel development experience.
- Scrum methodology experience.
- FPGA development experience.
- Python experience.
