Postdoctoral Research Associate (Microbiology and Immunology)

Location: College Station, Texas, United States; on-site laboratory and animal research activities.

Salary: $4,166.67 monthly minimum; $50,000 annually. The position is grant funded, and future employment may depend on continued funding.

What you will do

• Develop, perform, troubleshoot, and interpret immunoassays and infection studies.
• Investigate the function of selected Streptococcus equi genes through in vitro and in vivo research.
• Conduct bacterial and mammalian cell culture, CRISPR-Cas9 experiments, ELISA, ELISpot, western blot, flow cytometry, and cell-killing assays.
• Perform immunity and infection studies in horses and mice, including animal handling, sample collection, and experimental procedures.
• Generate, retrieve, analyze, and interpret research data.
• Prepare reports, manuscripts, abstracts, and grant proposals while supporting laboratory maintenance and inventory.

Requirements

• PhD in veterinary medicine or biomedical science, or a DVM/DVM-equivalent degree.
• Knowledge of immunology, infectious diseases, host-pathogen interactions, diagnostic and molecular microbiology.
• Experience with bacterial and mammalian cell culture, immunoassays, animal models, and common animal procedures.
• Technical skills in ELISA, conventional and real-time PCR, western blot, bacteriology, monoclonal antibody labeling, and flow cytometry.
• Ability to analyze data, prepare scientific presentations, write manuscripts and grant proposals, and collaborate effectively.

Nice to have

• Veterinary background with a PhD in microbiology or infectious diseases.
• Experience with basic and applied research, immunogenicity studies, and vaccine optimization.
• Scholarly publications and strong scientific communication skills.
• Interest in developing vaccines and strategies to control infectious diseases in animals, especially streptococcal infections in horses.
