Software Engineer II - Query Gateway (Java)

Estimated base pay: $126,000–$158,000 USD per year; eligible for a corporate bonus plan.

What you will do

• Own the query gateway stack for the proprietary NRDB telemetry database.
• Build and maintain scalable distributed Java services and petabyte-scale infrastructure.
• Investigate and resolve performance, availability, resiliency, and reliability issues in a multi-region, multi-cloud, multi-tenant database.
• Collaborate with AI, Visualizations, and Data Processing teams through cross-functional initiatives.
• Work in an agile DevOps environment, maintaining software and participating in an on-call rotation.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in collaborative software development.
• Strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and modern software design.
• Professional experience with Java or an equivalent object-oriented language such as C++, or C#.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of code and commitments, and troubleshoot through the command line.
• Ability to work from Portland, Oregon, USA; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Nice to have

• Experience operating software in a 24x7 SaaS environment.
• Experience or interest in database implementation, distributed systems, or query execution.
• Experience with observability platforms, public cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, Kubernetes, or Docker.
• Experience working asynchronously in distributed teams.
