Principal Software Engineer, Ads User Experience (C++)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States. Office-based roles require onsite presence Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.

Salary: $295,250–$345,040 USD annual base pay, plus potential equity compensation and benefits.

What you will do

• Build a first-of-its-kind advertising system within the Roblox Game Engine.
• Develop new advertising formats and integrations, starting with video.
• Design and improve systems that scale across Roblox experiences.
• Build production systems with strong emphasis on user experience, performance, and platform integrity.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver community-respecting advertising solutions.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience working in deep, complex C++ codebases and solving challenging technical problems.
• Principal-level software engineering experience with a record of building robust, production-quality systems.
• Strong background in app metrics, analytics, or data science, with the ability to interpret and act on insights.
• Deep understanding of reliable data systems and high standards for accuracy.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn emerging technologies.
• For the San Mateo office role, onsite attendance is required Tuesday through Thursday.
