TL;DR
2027 Government Relations Intern (Public Policy/Government Affairs): Supporting legislative and regulatory research, stakeholder analysis, government monitoring, and policy communications for a defense, national security, and space technology company with an accent on synthesizing complex developments into concise briefs and readouts. Focus on tracking congressional and agency activity, preparing meeting materials, and analyzing policy developments that affect business and industry priorities.

Location: Washington D.C.; in-person orientation, program kickoff, and final presentation travel required

Salary: $23.50–$30.00 per hour

What you will do

  • Research legislative, regulatory, policy, industry, and government developments relevant to the company.
  • Monitor congressional, executive branch, agency, and other government activities and summarize key developments.
  • Research and organize information about policymakers, agencies, government stakeholders, and industry organizations.
  • Support policy briefs, issue summaries, presentations, talking points, meeting materials, and internal readouts.
  • Attend or listen to hearings, briefings, policy events, and meetings, preparing concise summaries and takeaways.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, maintain government affairs information, and complete research projects accurately and on time.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited university, preferably in political science, public policy, government, international relations, business, economics, communications, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in government relations, public policy, legislative affairs, government, or related areas.
  • Strong research, analytical, critical-thinking, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must satisfy U.S. Government space technology export requirements: U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected individual status, or eligibility to obtain required authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience or coursework in government, public policy, legislative affairs, political science, or business.
  • Experience with policy, legislative, regulatory, or industry research and tracking government activities.
  • Familiarity with Congress, federal agencies, state or local government, or government affairs.
  • Interest in defense, national security, aerospace, technology, infrastructure, or related policy areas.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
