VP of R&D (AI)

What you will do

• Lead and scale the engineering organization across Big Data, Data Fusion, AI, Geospatial Intelligence, OSINT and emerging technology areas.
• Set technical direction across architecture, backend, data, AI, infrastructure and platform engineering.
• Develop engineering managers and technical leaders while strengthening ownership, accountability and decision-making.
• Improve engineering execution, reliability, observability, testing, security, release management and operational readiness.
• Partner with Product and Applied Research to turn prototypes and ambitious ideas into scalable products.
• Represent engineering in company strategy and align technical priorities with customer and business outcomes.

Requirements

• Significant experience leading and scaling complex engineering organizations of approximately 80–150+ engineers.
• Previous experience as a Head of R&D or Engineering, VP Engineering, Engineering Director, Group Engineering Manager or in a comparable role.
• Strong software engineering, architecture and distributed-systems background, including large-scale data ingestion, processing, analytics or AI systems.
• Experience developing engineering managers and senior technical leaders into independent leaders.
• Strong product mindset, technical judgment and ability to balance scalability, reliability, security, maintainability and speed.
• Clear communication skills and comfort working in a fast-moving international environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with investigation, intelligence, analytics, cybersecurity, fraud-detection or decision-support platforms.
• Experience with geospatial intelligence, mapping, movement analysis or geospatial data systems.
• Experience with AI/ML systems, LLM-based capabilities or AI-native product development.
• Experience delivering software for law enforcement, intelligence, government or defence environments.
• Experience leading distributed engineering teams across multiple countries and time zones.
