Hardware Reverse Engineer (Embedded Security): Reverse engineering complex embedded systems, high-speed data devices, system-on-modules, firmware, binaries, and communication channels with an accent on vulnerability analysis, hardware debugging, and exploit prototyping. Focus on analyzing unknown architectures, isolating functional behaviors in hardened hardware, building security tools in C, C++, and Python, and evaluating embedded system weaknesses.

Location: Dayton, Ohio, United States; onsite

What you will do

  • Perform hardware reverse engineering on complex embedded systems, high-speed data devices, and system-on-modules.
  • Support wireless and government programs through hardware analysis, functional isolation, and vulnerability research.
  • Reverse engineer system components, communication channels, firmware memory, and binaries across x86, ARM, and AVR architectures.
  • Prototype exploitation and security tools in C, C++, and Python.
  • Bring up and debug hardware using JTAG, UART, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Document system characteristics and vulnerabilities in comprehensive technical reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, or a related scientific field, or 2–5 years of embedded security industry experience.
  • Experience reverse engineering binaries, embedded hardware components, or system-on-modules.
  • Hands-on proficiency with JTAG, UART, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Programming proficiency in C, C++, and Python.
  • Active U.S. Secret security clearance and ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant technical field.
  • Experience with AMD/Xilinx, Altera, or Microsemi FPGA devices, or custom PCB design using Altium.
  • Experience with embedded bootloaders, RF protocols, or RF systems.
  • Knowledge of USB, SPI, I2C, PCIe, Ethernet, 802.11, Bluetooth, or ZigBee protocols.
  • Hardware hacking experience on IoT platforms.
