Senior Security Engineer (Crypto)

Location: San Francisco, CA, United States; hybrid collaboration with teams working in the office 10+ days per month as decided by managers and teams.

Annual base salary: $172,000–$215,000 USD for positions based in California. Equity, bonuses, and commissions are not included.

What you will do

• Design, build, and tune detections across the Google Security Operations stack.
• Lead sophisticated, high-severity incident investigations from triage through root-cause analysis and remediation.
• Build and maintain security automation workflows in tools such as Tines to reduce manual detection, triage, and response work.
• Own SIEM and security data pipeline health, including log-source coverage, parsing, normalization, and alert quality.
• Partner with IT, engineering, and other teams to improve security tooling adoption and detection coverage.
• Use and evaluate agentic coding tools such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex for detection engineering and automation, and verify their output before release.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in security operations, detection engineering, or incident response, including end-to-end ownership of detection and response work.
• Advanced knowledge of security principles, tools, and practices for detection and response operations.
• Strong scripting and automation skills with Python or SOAR, including REST API integrations.
• Experience with SIEM platforms and security data pipelines such as Google SecOps, including log onboarding, parsing, and alert tuning.
• Hands-on experience extending and tuning EDR, identity, email security, and network security tooling.
• Ability to write technical specifications, assess project risks, make trade-offs, solve ambiguous high-pressure problems, and mentor less experienced engineers.
