Applied Robotics Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in a Virginia-based office, with office and field work alongside customers in various locations.

Salary: $180K–$300K, plus equity.

What you will do

• Deploy AI and robotics models from training checkpoints to real-world hardware and production systems.
• Own post-training, evaluation, system integration, inference optimization, and deployment.
• Work with partners to understand legacy control systems, sensor pipelines, latency constraints, and edge-compute limits.
• Diagnose failures involving sensor calibration, actuator dynamics, control-loop timing, coordinate conventions, and multimodal model behavior.
• Connect deployment findings back to research and improve model reliability on physical systems.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience deploying AI or robotics systems from prototype to production across simulation, model development, and real-world deployment.
• End-to-end experience running trained models on real hardware and owning deployment failures.
• Strong Python and PyTorch skills, with C++ experience when performance requires it.
• Experience with inference optimization on constrained hardware, including quantization, distillation, TensorRT or ONNX export, and control frequency.
• Depth in policy learning and control, world models and simulation, or perception and inverse dynamics, plus interest in the other areas.
• Experience with sensors, robotics middleware, edge compute, real-time constraints, unreliable networks, and rigorous evaluation.
