Simulation Engineer (Artificial Intelligence)

What you will do

• Develop and maintain diverse, physically realistic simulation environments for the NEO home robot to accelerate AI policy development without requiring real robot time.
• Narrow the sim-to-real gap through domain randomization, calibration, and fidelity improvements to ensure reliable policy transfer to hardware.
• Scale synthetic data production infrastructure to meet AI training needs efficiently and reproducibly.
• Support hardware prototyping by enabling virtual testing of new robot designs before manufacturing.

Requirements

• On-site presence in San Carlos, CA
• 4+ years programming experience in Python, C++, or similar, with robotics simulator experience (MuJoCo, PyBullet, Isaac Sim, or equivalent).
• Experience optimizing physics simulators or OpenGL rendering pipelines and strong testing practices for simulation stacks.
• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science or related field.
• Knowledge of calibration algorithms and domain randomization techniques to improve sim-to-real fidelity.

Nice to have

• Experience with differentiable simulation or GPU-accelerated physics (Warp, JAX-based simulators).
• Background in legged locomotion, dexterous manipulation, or contact-rich robotics.
