Senior Detection & Response Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Hybrid role based at an office in Edinburgh, Leeds, Bristol, or Manchester, with at least two days per week or 40% of time spent onsite.

Salary: £92,701–£109,060 per year

What you will do

• Lead and coordinate complex cyber security investigations, including analysis, containment, remediation, recovery, and lessons learned.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance during incidents, investigations, threat-led activities, and cyber defence operations.
• Develop and continuously improve detection and response capabilities.
• Lead threat hunting and proactive investigations to identify and reduce cyber risk.
• Act as a technical authority influencing security policies, engineering patterns, roadmaps, and investment decisions.
• Drive automation and optimisation across detection and response activities.

Requirements

• Experience leading and handling complex cyber security incidents in a Security Operations, Cyber Defence, or Incident Response environment.
• Ability to conduct complex investigations, determine root cause, assess compromise, and lead remediation and recovery.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for fast-moving and ambiguous situations.
• Deep understanding of attacker behaviour, cyber attack lifecycles, emerging threats, and modern cyber defence approaches.
• Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance across technical and business teams.
• Clear communication skills for working with technical specialists, senior leaders, and non-technical audiences during cyber incidents.

• Experience developing threat hunting and proactive cyber defence capabilities.
• Experience implementing automation and optimisation in detection and response environments.
• Understanding of cyber security governance, risk management, regulatory obligations, and operational resilience requirements.
