Lead Accountant (Insurance Accounting)

Location: Warrenville, Illinois, United States; hybrid schedule with up to two work-from-home days per week after training for eligible associates

Salary: $80,000–$95,000 per year

What you will do

• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes, including journal entries and supporting schedules.
• Perform account reconciliations and investigate variances, unusual activity, and discrepancies.
• Handle insurance and underwriting accounting for premiums, commissions, claims, deferred revenue, reserves, and related balances.
• Reconcile underwriting and operational system activity to the general ledger.
• Prepare financial records, reports, audit schedules, and documentation for internal and external audits.
• Support regulatory and statutory reporting while improving accounting procedures and internal controls.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience and a background in insurance or insurance services accounting.
• Comprehensive understanding of U.S. GAAP and ASC 606.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, pivot tables, and lookup functions.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, prioritization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and partner effectively with cross-functional teams.

Nice to have

• CPA designation.
• Experience with premium, commission, claims, reserves, underwriting, and other insurance-related accounting activities.
• Exposure to insurance accounting under ASC 944.
