Manufacturing AI/ML Engineer

Location: On-site in Torrance, California, with travel of up to 15%.

Salary: $135,000–$220,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own the monitoring, analytics, and curated data layers for the additive manufacturing machine fleet.
• Develop and deploy AI/ML models for build-quality prediction, process-anomaly detection, and parameter optimization.
• Build feature engineering, labeling, data-quality, model-versioning, and production-performance infrastructure.
• Create process-monitoring dashboards and AI-driven alerts, integrating model outputs into OPUS and manufacturing workflows.
• Apply statistical process control, establish control limits, and support machine and process qualification analyses.
• Lead structured investigations of process escapes and build anomalies using 8D, 5 Whys, and fishbone analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Materials Science, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience in manufacturing data systems, process engineering, or data-driven manufacturing in a production environment.
• Hands-on experience training, validating, and deploying AI/ML models in engineering or manufacturing.
• Proficiency in Python, relevant ML frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch, and SQL.
• Experience building analytical datasets from structured and time-series manufacturing data, including gaps, resampling, and data-quality issues.
• Must work on-site full time in Torrance, California and qualify as a U.S. person for ITAR purposes.

Nice to have

• Experience applying AI/ML to metal additive manufacturing, including build-quality prediction, anomaly detection, melt-pool monitoring, or process-parameter optimization.
• Experience with in-situ monitoring data such as layer imaging, thermal sensing, acoustic emissions, or scanner telemetry.
• Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or regulated manufacturing qualification data packages.
• Familiarity with AMS7032, NIAR/NCAMP, U.S. Navy additive-manufacturing qualification, MLOps, or closed-loop process control.
